My name is Cynthia Veekens and I am the founder of Merdahn PhotoGraphy. Ever since I can remember, I have been a creative person and have always been busy with crafts, drawing and visualizing things. When my parents gave me their camera for the first time I just could not stop taking thinking of the magic that could happen! I was finally able to let people see the world I saw it! I took many pictures with that camera until I decided I wanted one of my own…. And I took that camera EVERYWHERE.|
In 2004 I got introduced with music-photography and my first ever photopit experience was with the Dimmu Borgir gig in the 013 in Tilburg (The Netherlands) and ever since I was addicted to make reports of concerts. I tried to avoid the cliché shots of the musicians and sometimes with success! I have made many pictures of many bands during all sorts of festivals and concerts. Then I wanted a new challenge….
I started out with a photography school to enhance my technical and conceptual knowledge about photography and visualization. I changed my photography skills from ‘pressing the button’ into ‘pressing the shutter and making the photograph’. In 2009, I graduated as a documentary photographer with the “My Name is Cocaine” series plus with a specialization in portrait photography. Ever since I decided that, I never want to be a ‘normal’ portrait photographer who takes pictures of people smiling. Thanks to my documentary background, I was able to tell stories with single images… In addition, I try to implement that into my own work….
